Balls will be flying out of the park left and right at Chase Field in the Desert, and here at Cappers Info, we’re making our 2011 Home Run Derby picks, complete with analysis of all of the participants in this tremendous annual spectacle.

MLB Preview: 2011 Home Run Derby
Date: Monday, July 11th, 8:00 ET
Location: Chase Field, Phoenix, AZ
Television Coverage: ESPN

Jose Bautista (3 to 1 Odds To Win Home Run Derby at Bet Guardian): Bautista is clearly the leader of the pack in this event because he has been blasting balls out of parks left and right this year. All of a sudden, this power surge for Bautista has been incredible; after all, he had fewer home runs in his six years in the bigs leading up to the 2010 season than he has had in the last two years. Bautista comes into this competition on a roll, having just blasted two homers on Saturday that towered through the night at Progressive Field. He is definitely a contender worth discussing even though first timers in the Derby don’t typically end up performing all that well.

David Ortiz (3.50 to 1 Odds To Win Home Run Derby at Bet Guardian): The defending champion of this event is going to be a force to be reckoned with. When Big Papi gets his act together in this competition, he is capable of blasting a slew of homers in one round. Last year, he knocked 11 dingers in the finals at Angels Stadium to win the crown. He could do the same this year.

Rickie Weeks (12 to 1 Odds To Win Home Run Derby at Bet Guardian): If recent form is any indication, perhaps the second representative from the Brew Crew is going to be the one to watch out for. Prince Fielder has won this event before (2009), but we have a sneaking suspicion that it is going to be Weeks that ends up really stealing the show on Monday night. He has taken three balls deep since July 3rd, and he is really getting good wood on the ball. Weeks is definitely a Home Run Derby dark horse, but knowing that this competition can be won by anyone any given year, we’re definitely willing to give Weeks a chance.
