The 2013 MLB betting season is off and running here at Cappers Info, and we are set to make more of our patented MLB picks for one of our favorite times of year. On Sunday night, the New York Mets will be led onto the field by Jon Niese, as they play host to the Washington Nationals, who will be countering with Ross Ohlendorf. The first pitch from Nationals Park is set to be thrown out at 8:05 p.m. ET

Sunday Baseball Picks: New York Mets @ Washington Nationals
Date: Sunday, September 1st, 8:05 ET
Location: Nationals Park, Washington DC
Mets vs. Nationals On TV: ESPN2

MLB Odds & Probable Starting Pitchers
New York Mets (Jon Niese) +132
Washington Nationals (Ross Ohlendorf) -140
Total: 7.5

The Nationals really have no chance of getting into the playoffs at this point. They had a great chance to close some ground on the Cincinnati Reds this week but failed to do so when push came to shove. Now, they are 7.5 games out of the Wild Card and really don’t have all that much of a chance, save for going on an LA Dodgers type of run to get into the second season. Heck, the team might not even be above .500 by the time tonight’s game is over with. This is a bad pitching matchup for the Nats on Sunday, too. Washington is going to be throwing RHP Ross Ohlendorf, who historically has been one of the suspect pitchers in the rotation when he has had a chance to do so. Yes, he has pitched well this year, but we can’t take away the fact that his ERA was beyond a touchdown in both of the last two years with other teams. We can’t imagine that all of a sudden, the Nats have fixed all of his problems. New York has had a devastating week with the news that RHP Matt Harvey could be out for the season and for next season with a slightly torn UCL. However, this prospective sweep could be something to cure a little bit of that pain. LHP Jon Niese is on the bump, and both his ERA and his WHIP over the course of the last three starts have been below 1.00. That’s good enough for us for sure.

Mets @ Nationals Pick 9/1/13: New York Mets +132
Mets @ Nationals Score Prediction: New York 4 – Washington 2
