Much has been made about the lack of importance of home field advantage in these playoffs. Yes, it’s true that the other three series have only netted a disturbing 3-4 record for the home teams, but in this series, that just hasn’t been the case. Milwaukee took the first two games here at Miller Park, and Arizona won the two games at Chase Field.
And now, we’re right back to where we started. Milwaukee is going to be throwing Yovani Gallardo once again, just as it did in Game 1. Gallardo was stellar, throwing eight innings and allowing just one run in what amounted to be the performance by a pitcher in this series. He struck out nine and allowed just four hits, and for the most part, the D’Backs were just completely baffled by what he was offering. This is a man that still only has two losses all season long at home, and if he gets into any trouble, don’t be shocked to see Zack Greinke, a man who wasn’t beaten at all this year at Miller Park enter the game.
Unfortunately for Arizona, it just doesn’t have these types of options. Sure, Daniel Hudson or Josh Collmenter could be used out of the bullpen, but these arms just aren’t as scary as the ones that are available to the Brewers. Offensively, the bats came alive and just keep getting better and better for the D’Backs. They have upped their run production in every game in this series, going from just one run in Game 1 to 10 runs in Game 4. We can’t imagine that continuing on Friday night, especially in such a tight situation like this one.
We backed the Brewers in Game 1, and we have no choice but to do so once again in Game 5. It’s hard to beat the same team in three consecutive games in a series like this one, and though we admire what the Diamondbacks have put together over the course of the last two months, it’s going to come to a close on Friday when Gallardo throws another gem.
