The Brewers need to be quite careful right now, as a loss in this Game 3 is probably going to leave them hurting in a big way just to get back in this series. St. Louis is carrying all of the momentum into Game 3 after Albert Pujols blew up for four hits and three RBIs, including a towering home run to lead to a huge 12-3 victory at Miller Park. On top of that, the Redbirds are coming back to Busch Stadium, where they split with the Philadelphia Phillies, and where they are 10-3 in their last 13 games. To make matters worse for the Brew Crew, Wednesday’s starter, Yovani Gallardo has led the team to just a 1-7 mark in his last eight starts against St. Louis. The Cards are also 7-2 in the last nine clashes of these NL Central titans. Chris Carpenter is going to be throwing for the Redbirds, and the hometown crowd is going to be thrilled to see him. His last three starts have all been on the road, and all he has done in those games is pitch two complete game shutouts (one of which was in Game 5 of the NLDS on the road against Roy Halladay in a 1-0 game) and pitch well enough to keep his team in the game against Cliff Lee, arguably one of the best postseason pitchers of the last decade.
That being said, we just can’t ignore the fact that Gallardo has pitched excellent baseball in his two starts in the playoffs. He might not be the same pitcher on the road that he is at home, where he is literally unhittable, but we don’t think that he is deserving of being this big of an underdog in this spot. Back Gallardo and his Brewers to flip home field advantage back to their side on Wednesday night to take all of the pressure off in Games 4 and 5 of this series.. St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers Game 3 Predictions: Milwaukee +140
