Friday MLB picks kick off the 2011 MLB playoffs odds, and we are all set to tackle the best games on the horizon this week! Check out our Tampa Bay Rays @ Texas Rangers Game 1 picks and our Detroit Tigers @ New York Yankees Game 1 picks!

MLB Predictions: Tampa Bay Rays @ Texas Rangers
Date: Friday, September 30th, 5:07 ET
Location: Ballpark in Arlington, Arlington, TX
MLB Playoffs Odds: Texas -175, Over/Under 8 (over -115)
MLB Playoffs TV Schedule: TBS

The Rays are Rangers are definitely going to have themselves a great series over the course of the next week and a half. Tampa Bay is sending Jeff Niemann to the mound in this one, and that probably means that the bullpen is going to be called upon. This is definitely a bad pitching matchup for Tampa Bay, knowing that Texas is using its top arm, CJ Wilson, a man who has shut it down quite a bit of late, including last year in the playoffs (6.1 scoreless innings) and twice in a row in the regular season this year (15.2 innings, two runs). Still, this is a great price on a team that is hot as heck right now. If the Rays can scratch seven runs together with all of the pressure in the world on them with just six outs to go in their season, even if it was against AAA pitching and a team that really didn’t care all that much, there’s no way that they should be this big of an underdog against the Rangers in Game 1. Tampa Bay Rays @ Texas Rangers Game 1 Predictions: Tampa Bay Rays +165

MLB Predictions: Detroit Tigers @ New York Yankees
Date: Friday, September 30th, 8:37 ET
Location: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY
MLB Playoffs Odds: New York -125, Over/Under 7 (over -115)
MLB Playoffs TV Schedule: TBS

This is a classic matchup that should not be taken for granted. The Tigers are going to be using the man that was arguably the most valuable player in the league, the soon-to-be Cy Young Award winner, Justin Verlander. Not only is Verlander going to be heading on the road against the best lineup in baseball, but he is going to have CC Sabathia on the other side of the mound. It’s really hard to picture that this pitching matchup is a push, but it probably is a lot closer than you think when you consider home field advantage. That being said, the lineups aren’t anywhere near each other, and the Yanks are well rested. They’re hitting well right now as well. Is there a reason for them to only be -125 favorites in this game? We just don’t think so. We’re going to take a chance on the higher odds to get the bigger payoff in this one, as we think that Verlander and his 251 innings pitched this year could come back to bite him and the Tigers in the butt when push comes to shove. Detroit Tigers @ New York Yankees Game 1 Predictions: New York Yankees -1.5 +170
