Game 1 of the World Series is always pivotal, as it seems as though the team that wins this game almost always wins the championship. That being said, it looks incredibly important right now that the Cardinals earned home field advantage in this series by virtue of the National League’s win in the All Star Game several months ago, as ridiculous as that rule might be.

Chris Carpenter is matched up with CJ Wilson in this one, and needless to say, it feels like this battle is night and day. Carpenter has a great postseason history, and he has had his moments of brilliance of late. He’s got two complete game shutouts in his last four starts, and the latter was arguably the best game ever pitched in the postseason, a 1-0 complete game on the road in Game 5 against the best team in baseball, the Philadelphia Phillies. Wilson, on the other hand, really only has one good start over the past two seasons in the playoffs, and he has an ERA of 8.02 and an 0-2 record in his three starts in these playoffs. Needless to say, this is a definite advantage to the hosts.

That being said, how on earth could we pick the Rangers if the Cards have such a great pitching edge, at least in the first two thirds of the game? Their lineup has been remarkable, and unlike Texas, it isn’t just one man that is carrying the load. You don’t score 15 runs on the run in a Game 6 of the NLCS without getting a complete effort, and that’s exactly what has happened for the Redbirds. They’ll claim Game 1 of this series with ease after running Wilson out of the contest relatively early. Expect another great start from Carpenter. St. Louis Cardinals @ Texas Rangers Game 6 Predictions: St. Louis -125
