Save for really one mistake pitch by Chris Carpenter, the Cardinals got a terrific start out of their ace on Wednesday night. The righty went six frames and allowed just a two run homer to Mike Napoli. The bullpen took it from there, pitching spotless baseball over three innings to get the job done and to close the first game of this series out.
Now it’s up to Jaime Garcia, who will be making his first ever start in the Fall Classic on Thursday night. The lefty has had a mixed bag of results in the postseason. He allowed a run in 4.2 innings of work against the Milwaukee Brewers in his second start of the NLCS, but he also allowed six runs in four innings in his first outing. So far in the playoffs, Garcia is 0-2 with a 5.74 ERA, but he has really not pitched all that poorly in two of those three starts. Garcia will oppose Colby Lewis. The righty pitched well in the playoffs last year, allowing just five runs in 26.1 innings of work, and he ended up going 3-0 in his four starts. This year, Lewis is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA, and he hasn’t looked nearly as good.
Still, we have more confidence right now in Lewis than in Garcia. We tend to think that this is going to be a series which goes back and forth the whole way, and we wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t a team that wins more than two in a row, if even that in this series. Count on Texas to get the job done to send this series back to Arlington all tied up at a game apiece. St. Louis Cardinals @ Texas Rangers Game 6 Predictions: Texas -105
