Two games have been split thus far in the 2011 Fall Classic, and we continue with our Game 3 World Series picks between the Texas Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday night.
Year To Date Record: 17-15 +$245
2011 Series Picks: 2-4, -$445
MLB Predictions: St. Louis Cardinals @ Texas Rangers Game 3
Date: Saturday, October 22nd, 8:05 ET
Location: Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Arlington, TX
MLB Playoffs Odds: Texas -180, Over/Under 9.5 (over -110)
MLB Playoffs TV Schedule: FOX
We’re just not all that sure that the Cardinals are really done for in this series in spite of the fact that Albert Pujols booted a relay throw that might have ultimately cost them Game 2 of the World Series. This is still a level series, and winning just one out of three here in Texas will send the series back to the Gateway to the West for decisive Games 6 and potentially 7. Plus, the Rangers look absolutely beatable, as their offense has been shoddy at best over the course of the first two games of this series.
The bad news is that this isn’t a good pitching matchup at all for the Redbirds. Kyle Lohse is a complete and utter gas can, and he has pitched horribly in these playoffs. The righty only led his team to a 17-15 record this year including the postseason, and there’s a reason that he has basically been buried for as long as possible since Game 1 of the NLDS.
The good news though, is that Matt Harrison isn’t all that much better. Harrison has only pitched 10 innings in these playoffs. He has allowed eight hits and five walks against a dozen strikeouts in two games, and he has conceded a total of just four runs. The good news is that he has kept the ball in the park, allowing just one homer in his last 10 appearances, but we still don’t have any sort of confidence that he really should be laying -180 in a game in which he isn’t definitively the better pitcher and his Texas team isn’t definitively the better team. St. Louis Cardinals @ Texas Rangers Game 6 Predictions: St. Louis +170
