Mr. Pujols just added a whole bunch of zeroes to the back end of his paycheck for next season when he cashes in via free agency. He blasted three home runs on Saturday, making some World Series history in the making, and the 16-7 romp in Arlington in Game 3 totally made everyone forget about his Game 2 blunder that made this a tied series.
What we have to now remember is that St. Louis has been a tremendous road warrior team of late. The team dropped double digits worth of runs on the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park twice in the NLCS, and they won their last two road games of the NLDS as well against the Philadelphia Phillies. Now, in Arlington, where the Rangers had played great ball this postseason, the Cardinals had their best showing, putting 16 runs on the board.
Now, it’s up to Edwin Jackson to extend that lead. Derek Holland has already led the Rangers to 22 wins this year, including the postseason. Both of these teams have averaged getting a ton of runs per game, a combined 12.4 runs, in fact, and these two bullpens have to be smashed after throwing just a ton of frames (mostly unsuccessful). These two arms just aren’t all that great and haven’t been good in the playoffs, especially in the LCS. Jackson lasted just two innings in the 12-6 win at Milwaukee the last time out, while Holland only made in a total of 7.1 innings in his last two starts combined. All of the makings are there for another high scoring shootout in the Lone Star State, though of course, we don’t expect to see 23 runs on the board. St. Louis Cardinals @ Texas Rangers Game 6 Predictions: St. Louis/Texas Over 9.5
