MLB Odds & Probable Starting Pitchers
Washington Nationals (Dan Haren) -112
Philadelphia Phillies (John Lannan) +107
Total: 9

We are extremely concerned over both of these starting pitchers coming into play on Monday between the Nationals and the Phillies. LHP John Lannan, a lifetime member of the Nats before this year, has a 5.15 ERA this season, and batters are killing him to the tune of a .313 batting average against. He is coming off of a start against the Pittsburgh Pirates in which he was lit up for 11 hits and four runs in just five innings, and he was very fortunate that the damage wasn’t significantly worse. RHP Dan Haren is pitching for the first time since June 22nd after he suffered some shoulder problems, and we have to wonder whether the inflammation has truly died down and if he is really ready to pitch. Over the course of his last eight starts before the hiatus on the DL, Haren had led the Nationals to an 0-8 record, and he went 0-6, watching his ERA bulge from 4.76 up to 6.15. Batters are knocking Haren around for a .306 average as well. Now add in the fact that Washington has averaged 8.0 runs per game and is batting .341 as a team in those games, and the makings are there for this to be yet another high scoring game. Though there hasn’t been a game with more than nine runs scored between these two in nine straight outings, five of the six games played this year have gone past the ‘total’. This should be no exception.

Nationals @ Phillies Pick 7/8/13: Over 9
Nationals @ Phillies Score Prediction: Philadelphia 7 – Washington 5
