Our 2012 MLB playoffs picks continue on Sunday night in Detroit, where the Detroit Tigers battle it out with the Oakland Athletics. Join us for our MLB predictions for what should be a remarkable Game 2 of the ALDS.
The Tigers already have the 1-0 lead in this series, and they are going to want to make sure that they can take the second game of this one to really pour the pressure on the Athletics going back to Oakland on Tuesday. The pitching matchup isn’t nearly as good for Detroit as it was on Saturday, though. Doug Fister and Tom Milone seem to be largely the same pitcher, knowing that the two both had 10 losses, both averaged right around 6.1 innings per start this year, and both had ERAs in the mid-3.00s.
The A’s have to know that they are in some trouble right now. They got a good performance out of Jarrod Parker on the mound, and they held Austin Jackson, Miguel Cabrera, and Prince Fielder to a total of one hit in the game. The offense had just four hits, and just two of those were extra base hits. It’s going to be hard to keep down those three men, and it is going to be hard to get much more out of Milone than what it got out of Parker on Saturday. The offense has to be better though, especially right in the heart of that lineup.
The Tigers are great, but this is too much in our eyes. They just aren’t good enough to beat these A’s this percentage of the time to warrant being a -160 favorite. In the end, Oakland is going to get the split in this series on the road, which is good enough for the team to feel confident coming back to the O.co Coliseum next week.
