The NLDS continues with Game 2 on Sunday, and that means that we are going to be making our baseball picks and playoff predictions for the game between the San Francisco Giants and the Cincinnati Reds.
To say that the Giants have to win this game is a tremendous understatement. They absolutely cannot afford to fall behind two games to the Reds going back to Cincinnati next week, or they are going to get destroyed very quickly and watch a very promising season come to an end. All of the pressure is going to be on the shoulders of Madison Bumgarner, who went 16-11 this year with a 3.37 ERA. The world found out about Bumgarner in the 2010 playoffs when he helped pitch the Giants to the World Series. He’s going to go against the savvy veteran, Bronson Arroyo, who already has some major wins in his career here in the postseason.
What really has us thinking that the Reds are going to be the choice in this game is the moxie that they showed last night after losing Johnny Cueto right away after facing just one batter. Brandon Phillips and Jay Bruce both went yard, and the projected Game 3 starter, Mat Latos pitched a heck of a game, allowing just a solo homer and four hits in four innings of work. We’ve said over and over if this gets into a bullpen game, that the Reds are winning. They just have to be careful, knowing that every bullet that Manager Dusty Baker had in his arsenal was used last night.
We’re going to continue riding with the Reds in this one, just like we will probably continue to ride with underdogs all throughout these playoffs. This is just such an even series, and there are so many teams that are capable of winning every single game against every single team. Go with the Reds on Sunday night.
