The NLDS continues with Game 3 on Wednesday, and that means that we are going to be making our baseball picks and playoff predictions for the game between the Washington Nationals and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Enjoy this one, Washington. It’s the first time that playoff baseball has been played here in DC since 1933, and it is going to be a heck of a fight between two teams that have all of the moxie in the world. Washington is coming into this having stolen a game in St. Louis, knowing that two out of three at home will suffice to get to the NLCS. The Cards though, pitched a decent first two games at home, have their best arms still available to pitch, and are coming off of a 12-4 victory. This truly is a tossup from here for the final three games of this series, and we would be surprised to not see these teams playing all three days.
Over the course of looking at their whole careers, the battle between Edwin Jackson and Chris Carpenter looks like a mismatch. Carpenter has World Series pedigree and has been with the Cardinals for years and years, while Jackson has bounced all over the place and only just barely seems to find a spot in a rotation every single year. However, Carpenter hasn’t pitched well this year, and he only has three starts, all of which have been lost by St. Louis. He is coming off of arm troubles, and it is a miracle that he is even pitching in this season. Jackson only went 10-11, but his 4.03 ERA was badly inflated by two horrendous starts down the stretch.
Emotions are going to be running high in DC on Wednesday afternoon ,and the hope is there for the home side that this will be a special day to remember, especially knowing that it might be a once in a generation type of chance for the team to get the edge in a series like this one. Washington is the right side to take, as we just don’t trust that Carpenter is really ready for this big of a start, especially with as many innings as the bullpen has had to throw in the first two games of this series.
