ALCS Game 6 Probable Starting Pitchers & Odds
Detroit Tigers (Max Scherzer) +109
Boston Red Sox (Clay Buchholz) -114
Total: 7

This has been a series full of overreactions, and we think that’s going to continue in this one. After Game 1, everyone figured that the Red Sox weren’t going to be able to hit anything in this series. They turned around and beat both RHP Max Scherzer and RHP Justin Verlander. After that, everyone figured that the Sox were going to roll through this series, and they were beaten in Game 4. Everyone figured that Detroit was going to take Game 5 with a favorable pitching matchup. Oops. Now that the Red Sox are back at home and just one win away from the World Series, for whatever reason, the oddsmakers have completely forgotten that the Tigers are a tremendous team with the Cy Young Award winner on the mound.

Is it entirely impossible to think that the Red Sox could win this game with Scherzer, who now has 23 wins on the season, on the mound? Of course not. But let’s be realistic about this and call it what it is. It’s a travesty that RHP Clay Buchholz is favored in this game, and there is no way that Boston is winning this one more often than not. It didn’t work well for LHP Clayton Kershaw yesterday, but we have to play the percentages here. Detroit is 27-8 in games that Scherzer pitches in this one. Yes, the Red Sox are now 15-3 in games that Buchholz pitches, but the righty has allowed at least four runs in four straight starts dating back to the regular season, including allowing three against the Tampa Bay Rays and five against these Tigers. Yes, Detroit ended up blowing Game 2 of this series thanks to a DH David Ortiz grand slam, but the Sox can’t count on that with regularity. This series has deserved a do or die seventh game, and it is going to get in. Scherzer is going to get the job done on Saturday to have Beantown buzzing about the possibility of blowing this series.

Detroit Tigers @ Boston Red Sox Pick: Detroit Tigers +109
Detroit Tigers @ Boston Red Sox Score Prediction: Tigers 4 – Red Sox 1
