The 2012 MLB playoffs continue on Sunday in Baltimore, where the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees are going to do battle with one another. Don’t miss our MLB playoff picks and our Yankees vs. Orioles Game 1 ALDS predictions for the baseball playoffs!

As Manager Buck Showalter looked at his roster and his pitching staff for this one, he knew that he wasn’t going to have the lesser starter. The Yankees are going to be sending CC Sabathia to the mound, and he has been one of the best pitchers in the game over the course of the last decade or so. The O’s will counter with Jason Hammel and hope for the best, knowing that this first game in Camden Yards won’t go well if Sabathia is at his best.

Sabathia has thrown eight innings over the course of each of his last three starts, and he has to be ready to go for this one to start off the postseason. Of course, the last time that he pitched here in Baltimore, Sabathia was beaten by Joe Saunders, the man that pitched the Wild Card game on Friday night. Hammel though, only threw five innings against the Yankees two days before Sabathia was on the mound, which has been par for the course for the righty this year.

Still, Baltimore has shown the grit and the tenacity to continue to win games, even against all odds. The truth of the matter is that Sabathia is overrated, knowing that he led his team to just an 18-10 record. This is a tough team and a tough spot to pitch in, and for this being the first game of the playoffs, it feels like this is a game that the Orioles are just going to figure out how to win at least half the time. This is just too good of a price to pass up.
