March Madness Bracket Picks (South Region)
This is going to be the most difficult bracket to handicap. In the top half of the region, we think that Kansas is going to get through to the Sweet 16 with ease, as North Carolina and Villanova are both overrated squads that shouldn’t really be involved in the latter stages of the dance. In the Sweet 16 though, there could be some tremendous problems. The team that we are keeping a very close eye on is VCU. The Rams force just a ton of turnovers, and they should have no problems getting past Akron in the first round. Facing off with Michigan in the second round is going to be tough. We think the winner of this game could actually win the National Championship when push comes to shove, and that’s a huge statement to make. If VCU survives this one, its defense is going to cause all sorts of “havoc” (literally) for the Jayhawks, who don’t have the guards to be able to keep up. The bottom of the South Region really doesn’t feature much in the way of great guards either. Northwestern State is a team that could be a trendy upset pick when push comes to shove, and Minnesota is an athletic team that is going to get a lot of play as well. Still, we like UCLA out of this subsection, knowing that the Bruins could give all sorts of problems to Florida athletically. Georgetown is a great team, but it’s not a guard-laden team, and it is one that could get bounced out of the dance potentially as early as a matchup against either San Diego State or Oklahoma. Don’t be shocked if this ends up being a wild bracket, as we’ll take the Rams to go to their second Final Four over UCLA.
March Madness Bracket Picks (East Region)
The East is a bracket that clear should belong to Indiana. The Hoosiers are one of the best teams in the country, and they really might be able to run through a few rounds of this tournament before they even get touched. When you look at the teams from Syracuse in the four line to UNLV at the five, and the rest of the teams here in the top half of the East, there just isn’t a team that is going to be able to hang with the Hoosiers. The bottom half of the bracket figures to be a dangerous one, though. The Hurricanes of Miami were figured to be a No. 1 seed after winning the ACC Tournament, but it didn’t happen. Instead, “The U” has to go to Austin, which isn’t a great place to be playing. Look out for a solid Colorado team that played some great games in the Pac-12 this season. Butler has a shot to go on another Cinderella run as a No. 6 seed in the dance, and we think that it is going to get a second shot at Indiana in the Elite Eight. This time though, we really have to think that the Hoosiers are going to be the team that takes the cake and moves on to the Final Four.
March Madness Bracket Picks (Midwest Region)
The top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament is Louisville, and this is the bracket that it is going to be in come Thursday. The Cardinals really have a tough trip to get into the Final Four, though. Whether it’s Colorado State or Missouri, this is going to be tough for the Cards. Oklahoma State is a team that could be a trouble for Louisville as well. We really like the Cowboys to get out of the 5/12 game against Oregon and then take out a slow-paced St. Louis team. From there, it could be onto the Elite Eight, though we do like Louisville to find a way to get past that game when push comes to shove. At the bottom, it’s all about the Dookies. The Blue Devils are playing well with F Ryan Kelly in the fold, and they could be the team that ultimately wins this bracket when push comes to shove. Many think that Creighton could be an upset pick waiting to happen. That could be the case, but it could ultimately be a disaster as well for the Missouri Valley reps, who really played poorly down the stretch until Arch Madness happened in St. Louis. Michigan State should be able to get to the Sweet 16 once again without much of a problem, knowing that Memphis and either St. Mary’s or Middle Tennessee State shouldn’t be much of a hindrance to Sparty. Duke though, is one of the most talented teams in the land and in this bracket, and we think that it is going to be in the Final Four.
March Madness Bracket Picks (West Region)
Finally, we’re down to the West Region, where we have a bunch of teams that could be overrated. We’ll immediately turn our attention to the upset alert that could be the 2/15 game. Iona is a legitimate team that could have just as easily ultimately been an 11 seed this year had it won a ton of these close games that it lost. Ohio State has to be a tired team after winning the Big Ten Tournament, and though the Buckeyes are playing well, the Gaels have a shot at the upset. That really could open the door for New Mexico or Arizona. We like both of the higher seeds in the 3/14 and 6/11 games in spite of the fact that both have tough matchups to deal with. The Wildcats are hungry to prove that they were underrated all season long in spite of the fact that most think they underachieved more than anything else. In fact, we think that the Cats could go all the way to the Final Four this year. No one in the top half of this bracket is really all that scary to us. Gonzaga could be a paper tiger of a No. 1 seed, and it could find itself in some trouble against a team like Wichita State in the second round of the dance. Wisconsin is the team that we think would ultimately do away with the Bulldogs, though. Yes, this is a tired Wisky team, and yes, this is a squad that really doesn’t have much in the way of great guards, but the draw is nice for the Badgers, and their defense is as good as any in this region. Still, we really like the Wildcats of Arizona to come out of what could be a tremendously entertaining and upset filled bracket.
