Fight Hunger Bowl – BYU Cougars vs Washington Huskies
Date and Time: Friday 12/27/13 at 9:30pm on ESPN
Game Line: Washington -3 (from JustBet)
Friday’s Fight Hunger Bowl NCAA Football Analysis: The departure of head coach Steve Sarkisian has made for an eventful past couple of weeks for Washington. Interim coach Marques Tuiasosopo will try to lead the Huskies to their highest win total in 15 seasons and their seven win in their last eight bowl games on Friday. Tuiasosopo gets to coach Washington because Sarkisian left to take the USC coaching job, and they will have Boise State coach Chris Peterson coming in to take the team over next year. The 34 year old Tuiasosopo has very little coaching experience and that could play a factor if this is a close game late in the fourth quarter. A three game losing streak in October took Washington out of PAC-12 title contention but the team won four of their last five games and will play their fourth straight bowl game. Following a five-game winning streak that made the program bowl eligible for a ninth straight season, BYU lost two of three before capping the regular season with a 28-23 win at Nevada. This matchup features three of the nation’s best rushers in Washington running back Bishop Sankey, BYU quarterback Taysom Hill and running back Jamaal Williams. Sankey is third nationally in yards, Hill is 21st and Williams is 22nd. The difference this game will be the passing game and Washington’s Keith Price is one of the better passers in the country and has thrown just five interceptions all season. He will be the difference maker for Washington and force BYU to spread out, opening up the run game inside. BYU is a much more one dimensional team and that purely rushing attack will be much easier to prepare for for the Washington defense. Washington’s offense is one of the highest scoring in the nation and they will move the ball against BYU who averages 21.3 points per game.
BYU vs Washington NCAA Football Picks: Washington -3 and over 60
BYU vs Washington Game Prediction: 43-37 Washington
What to expect in the 2013 Fight Hunger Bowl: Both teams will be able to run the ball effectively from start to finish but the big plays from Washington quarter back Keith Price will be a big difference maker. Washington’s ability to use the run to set up the play action pass will keep BYU off balance and over power them as the game goes on. BYU doesn’t have the passing attack it takes to make a come back later in games and Washington will continue to pour it on.
