Preview: The Boise State Broncos take on the Arizona Wildcats in the Fiesta Bowl from University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
The Broncos come into Wednesday’s match up with an 11–2 record and were the Mountain West conference champions. They are coming off a somewhat lackluster 28–14 victory over Fresno State, where they were outgained in yardage yet forced three interceptions in the victory. The Broncos started off the season with a 35–13 loss to Mississippi but rebounded with three straight wins. They then struggled against the Air Force triple option in a 28–14 loss. The Broncos then went on a run, winning their final seven regular-season games and capping it off with the victory in the Mountain West conference championship.
Arizona was one of the better teams in the competitive PAC-12 conference this season. They are coming off a 51– 13 loss to Oregon in the PAC-12 championship game. They had beaten Oregon earlier this season 31–24 in Eugene, yet were thoroughly dominated, not scoring until five minutes in to the third quarter. The Wildcats ranked 28th in the nation in total offense averaging 461.4 yards per game. As good as their offense is their defense doesn’t do them any favors, allowing 449 yards per game.
The Boise State program is very familiar with being in the Fiesta Bowl, as they are 2–0 in this ball game in the schools history. If you take a look at this line, you see an Arizona team that has the home-field advantage for the most part being in their home state and only have to win by four points or more. There’s always that saying that if it’s too good to be true, it probably is. The Wildcats ended their season on a very sour note, and one has to realize where this young team is mentally. Boise State’s offense can put up some points in a hurry, averaging 496 yards per game this season, and can run the ball efffectively with Jay Ajayi (1689 yds this season). Defensively they are only allowing 366 yards per game. I think this game is going to be a wild one, and when it comes to the Fiesta Bowl, Boise State usually feels right at home. I’ll grab the points with the Broncos, in a game that should go soaring over the total.
