Location: Salt Lake City, UT (Airing on ESPN)
Preview: The #17 Arizona Wildcats take on the #17 ranked Utah Utes from Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City Utah in a PAC-12 battle.
The Utah Utes are coming off a solid road victory over Stanford, winning 20–17 in double overtime. It was a game between two of the more physical teams in the conference. Quarterback Travis Wilson was clutch in the 2 overtime sessions with touchdown passes to Kaelin Clay and Kenneth Scott to get the Utes the road win. The win was The Utes fourth Road win on the season, with others being at UCLA, Oregon State, and at Michigan. Utah’s offense is centered on their run game and is led by running back Davontae Booker, Who has 1113 yards on the season averaging 5.1 yards per carry. In terms of their defense, they are very sound. They lead the nation in sacks by a wide margin averaging 4.7 per game, and have one of the better defensive of lines in the country.
The Arizona Wildcats started of the season strong with five straight wins, including a 31–24 victory over Oregon in Eugene. They then stumbled mid-season losing two out of their next three at home against USC and on the road at UCLA. They’ve won their last two games and are coming off a narrow 27–26 win at home against Washington. Freshman quarterback Anu Solomon has surprised many this season, with 3058 yards passing with 25 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He’s had trouble staying up right though, as he’s been sacked 22 times this season. Nick Wilson leads the team and rushing with the 867 yards and 9 touchdowns, averaging 5.4 yards per carry. They’re leading receiver is Cayleb Jones, who has 788 yards receiving and 8 touchdowns on the season.
Utah has been through quite a stretch of games in the past couple of weeks. They defeated USC 24–21, lost in overtime at Arizona State, were defeated in a high-profile game against Oregon at home, and then won at Stanford last week in double overtime. Not only does it show the toughness of this team, but it shows their resolve. Vegas linesmakers didn’t give the Utes much of a chance last weekend, as they were 8 point underdogs. They’re a well-coached squad that plays a smash mouth brand of football. I like them to continue their momentum on Saturday with a win over Arizona. The Wildcats struggled last weekend with one of the better defensive fronts in the conference in the Washington Huskies. They will now face the best defensive line in the conference, and quite possibly in the nation. Arizona has been struggling to stop the run allowing 158 yards on the ground per game. I like Utah to control the pace of the game and win this by a comfortable margin.
