Preview: The USC Trojans take on crosstown rival UCLA Bruins in a key PAC-12 tilt from the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
USC is coming off a 38-30 win over California last Thursday night, and with Arizona State losing to Oregon State last Saturday, the Trojans are first in the PAC-12 South division. Quarterback Cody Kessler has completed 70% of his passes 42919 yards and 29 touchdowns. His main target is wide receiver Nelson Aguilar, Who showed off his talents against California with 216 yards and two touchdowns. Javorius Allen is one of the better running backs in the country and has rushed for over 100 yards and eight games this season and has eight trips to the end zone the season.
Since they are back-to-back losses in early October the UCLA Bruins are playing at a much higher level and have won four straight. They’ve had an extra week to prepare for the Trojans and were last in action November 8 when they got a 44-30 win at Washington. The Bruins are averaging 498 yards per game, and are led by dual threat quarterback Brett Hundley, who has completed 72% of his passes for 2547 yards with 17 touchdowns. Hundley also has 564 yards rushing and seven touchdowns. You’re leading receiver is Jordan Payton, who has 839 yards and 7 touchdowns on the season. Paul Perkins is the team is leading running back with 1172. The UCLA defense is allowing 410 yards per game, which ranks sixth in the conference.
Defensively, these teams leave little to be desired, and with the extra time to prepare, I have to give UCLA the edge in this game. I do feel that this one will come down to the wire, so laying the points in this rivalry isn’t really the smartest move, especially when both teams can score in a hurry. I’m going to grab the points with the Trojans, but I really expect this to be a shootout and go over the posted total. Bruins win Trojans cover in a high-scoring affair.
