Auburn at Mississippi State Game Preview: Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott will be the hottest quarterback in college football with a home win against Auburn this weekend. Prescott leads the ninth ranked offense in the country, producing at least 200 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in every game this season. Both Prescott and Auburn’s defense have gotten much better since the Tigers won on a last second touchdown at home against Mississippi State last season. Prescott ran for 133 yards and two touchdowns in that game. He also passed for 213 yards. The Bulldogs moved up nine spots in the ranks after a dominant 48-31 win over Texas A&M last weekend and the hype continues to grow in Starksville. ESPN is coming to campus for the first time ever and the team is finally nationally recognized. They started last season 4-6 and have won eight in a row since. Prescott’s rapid emergence into superstar territory is one obvious reason for the streak, having thrown for 1,232 yards, 13 touchdowns and two interceptions while running for 455 yards and six TDs. Auburn went to last season’s national championship game with a high powered offense and a defense that came up big in some clutch situations while facing quarterbacks like A.J. McCarron, Johnny Manziel, and Jameis Winston. This year, against much less dominant offenses, they’ve played much better. Auburn ranks among the league’s top three teams in scoring, total and run defense. The Tigers, who are ninth nationally in scoring defense, have allowed 21 or fewer points for five straight games. Now the Tigers must try to slow down Prescott and Josh Robinson who is fourth in the SEC with 592 yards and a gaudy 7.5 yards per carry. The newfound national spotlight is going to be a big motivational factor in this one, with College Gameday coming to Starksville and the Bulldogs enjoying their most success ever. Combine that with a quarterback that is hitting his stride at the right time and we give the advantage to the home dog in this one.
