2014 Week 7 College Football Picks: Georgia at Missouri

Matchup: #13 Georgia Bulldogs at #23 Missouri Tigers

Game Line: Georgia -3, 59 at JustBet
Saturday, October 11th @ 12:00 pm (EST) on CBS
Location: Columbia, Missouri

Preview: Georgia star running back Todd Gurley has been suspended indefinitely while the school investigates an alleged violation of NCAA rules, leaving the 13th ranked Bulldogs without one of the leading contenders for the Heisman Trophy when they visit Missouri in a crucial SEC Eastern Division game Saturday.  Gurley has put up some gaudy number with 773 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns, 11 receptions and a 100 yard kickoff return for a touchdown.  He’s obviously an irreplaceable part of the Bulldog’s offense.  Georgia lost its first road contest to South Carolina 38-35 on September 13, but has since bounced back to knock off Troy, Tennessee and Vanderbilt by a combined 145-49.  Now their schedule gets much tougher as they head on the road for four straight SEC contests which has proven tough for Georgia over the years.  They seem to start strong and get their name on the national watch list before falling apart on the road in the SEC.

Missouri rebounded from a 31-27 home loss to Indiana on September 20th by beating South Carolina 21-20 in their first SEC game of the season.  Their run defense has been a problem all season, allowing 144.6 rushing yards per game, eighth in the SEC.  They are lucky they won’t see Gurley, rather freshman running back Nick Chubb, who has a very modest 230 yards this season.  Missouri does boast a very potent pass rush, with 16 sacks through four games facing a Georgia offensive line that has already given up 6.  Georgia won’t be able to run the ball as often as typically do without Gurley and will be forced to play into Missouri’s strength on defense.  In 3 games without Gurley last season Georgia went 1-2 including a 41-26 loss to Missouri.  He’s too big of a part of what Georgia does on offense for them to be effective on offense in their first game without him.
