Date/Time: Friday, October 24th @ 10:00 pm (EST)
Location: Santa Clara, CA (airing on Fox Sports 1)
Preview: It could be a busy night for the scoreboard operator as the California Golden Bears take on the Oregon Ducks in a PAC-12 showdown on Friday night from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
The last time we saw the Ducks in action they were upset in week 6 at home against Arizona. Marcus Mariota was under consistent pressure as he was sacked seven times. The Ducks had a lot of injuries on the offensive line and it showed. Since that game, they’ve gotten healthy and in their last two contests they’ve averaged 43.5 points per game. The Ducks are averaging 309 yards through the air and 217 yards on the ground per game. Their defense has been inconsistent this year allowing 447.8 yards per game.and are ranked 101st nationally in total defense.
The California Golden Bears are currently 4–3 and 2–3 in PAC-12 play. They are without a doubt improved this season compared to their 1–11 record in 2013. The Bears are ranked 19th in the nation in total offense and third in the nation in passing averaging 372 yards per game.they have one impressive win on their schedule, defeating Washington State 60-59. They are coming off a heartbreaking defeat losing to UCLA 36–34. Like Oregon, their defense is also very suspect, allowing 525 yards per game.
I am really not crazy about laying the points with Oregon, however I do know they are the far superior team. There is one thing that sticks out in this game, and it’s not the actual game itself, but it’s what’s in store for Oregon next week. The Ducks will play the Stanford Cardinal, team that has had their number in the last few years. Will they be looking ahead? I’m not sure, but Stanford is having a down year, and are currently not ranked. What we have in this game is two offenses that can light up the scoreboard, along with two defensive units that can’t seem to stop anything. I do like Oregon to cover the number here, but I am hesitant to lay the points. What I really think the play here is the total, and I see this game going over the posted number easily. Oregon knows they must be impressive from here on out to be considered for a spot in the national championship semifinals. The last time they were on national television they did not impress, I think they will be impressive tonight and will outscore the Bears by the posted number. They are the better team in all three phases of the game, and definitely have a lot more at stake.
