Week 2 NCAA Football Pick: Cincinnati Bearcats @ Illinois Fighting Illini

Week 2 Betting Odds: Cincinnati -10 (56)
Cincinnati vs. Illinois Live TV: ESPN

And let the overreaction begin! The Fighting Illini let their foot off of the gas pedal at the very beginning and very end of the game against the Southern Illinois Salukis, while at the same time, the Bearcats were beating the snot from start to finish out of a suspect Purdue team. So what do the oddsmakers do with the college football Vegas odds in this one? They line Cincinnati at -10 on the road against a major conference team. Right? Or wrong? We’re definitely guessing on the side of wrong at this point. We definitely have no doubt that Illinois should be the underdog team in this game, but by double digits? It seems like a horrid overreaction to us.

QB Nathan Scheelhaase is going to be the key in this one for Illinois. Already, he has shown that he can put the ball in the air, as he threw for over 400 yards in the win against Southern Illinois. Take it for what it’s worth due to the fact that it was only Southern Illinois that he did it against, but we are already seeing the effects of Head Coach Tim Beckman trying to get Scheelhaase in a situation where he can succeed. In the end though, this is more of a bet against QB Munchie Legaux than anything else. We just don’t trust him when push comes to shove. Legaux and the Bearcats only played four legitimate road games last year, and one of those games ended in a loss to the Toledo Rockets as 5.5-point favorites. Legaux threw five picks in his two road games which he started, and he already has two INTs this season. As long as he is the starting quarterback, we aren’t laying big time points with the Bearcats, especially on the road.

Cincinnati vs. Illinois Pick: Illinois Fighting Illini +10
Cincinnati @ Illinois Score Prediction: Cincinnati 31 – Illinois 27
