Saturday’s Stanford vs USC NCAA Football Analysis: Stanford’s impressive win against Oregon has them in the driver’s seat for another PAC-12 Championship game while Southern California is hoping to continue their recent success.  After knocking off number two Oregon the fifth ranked Cardinals will try to beat USC for the fifth straight year.  Stanford’s only loss this season came back in October to Utah and if they can win their remaining three games they could host the PAC 12 championship game in December.  Lane Kiffin was the USC coach in their previous three losses but he was fired in September and the Trojans have won four of five under interim coach Ed Orgeron.  They will have to hope their offense continues to perform, it has been the reason they have won and lost all of their games this season with a very solid defense.  QB Cody Kessler has sparked USC during their current win streak by completing 74% of his passes and only throwing one interception.  Combine that with RB Javorius Allen who has 270 yards and five touchdowns in November and that is why USC has been so successful of late.  However, getting that type of production against the Stanford defense is unlikely.  Stanford allows a mere 98 yards per game on the ground and held Oregon to just 62.  Meanwhile, the Stanford offense can pound the running game as well as any team in the country.  Tyler Gaffney is one of the countries best backs and single handedly carried his team to victory against Oregon last week.  They’re going to need him to continue to be successful because their passing game has been below average behind QB Kevin Hogan, who is more of a game manager and hopes to limit his mistakes and let his defense and running game carry his team to victory.  This will be a defensive struggle and whichever team can get the run game going will be the team that wins.  If Stanford can pound the rock to a victory against a high flying Oregon offensive attack, there’s no reason to think they can’t do it again against USC here.
Stanford at USC NCAA Football Picks: Stanford -4 and over 46
Stanford at USC Game Prediction: 27-21 Stanford
What to expect in this week 12 NCAA Football match up:
Stanford’s running game will have more success than USC’s throughout the game.  The QB play of Kevin Hogan will be enough to convert on a few short third downs and Stanford’s offense will build a lead in the first half and make USC come from behind which they are not built to do.  They will have a hard time getting the passing attack going in the second half and aside from a few big plays will be largely held in check.  Stanford will continue the power running game in the second half while they eat clock and win the game without USC having a chance to mount a comeback.
