One team will likely be eliminated from the MAC East title race and from bowl eligibility on Wednesday night, as the Temple Owls take on the Miami Redhawks. We’re all set for our NCAA football free picks for the big time game.

Miami and Temple feel like they are in totally different places right now. The Redhawks are struggling to finish .500 on the year, while the Owls are already nearly guaranteed for that .500 record and will at least be eligible for a bowl game. However, if we learned nothing else after watching Temple not make a bowl game after winning eight games last season, it is that MAC teams can count on nothing if they aren’t in their conference title game.
And that being said, it is 4-5 Miami that controls its own destiny to reach the MAC title game, not the 5-4 Owls. However, the latter can take a big step in the right direction with a win on Wednesday night.
We’re not doubting that that win will happen, as it is clear to us that the Owls are the better team (even though we were convinced that they were the better team last year as well when they were beaten 23-3 as 8.5 point favorites in this fixture in Oxford). Temple runs the ball well, and it plays stellar defense, and it is going against a team that is completely one dimensional. The Redhawks rank dead last in the country in rushing at just over 70 yards per game, and that number dips to just 52.8 yards per game on the road. Even if a leg injury does keep RB Bernard Pierce out of this game, RB Matt Brown is more than capable of picking up the slack, as are a number of other Temple rushers. That being said, QB Zac Dysert is relatively proficient, and he is going to get the ball in the end zone a couple of times. If that’s how this plays out, we have a hard time seeing the Owls win by two touchdowns in a series in which the underdog is 4-0 ATS over the course of the last four years.
