If the teams in the MAC were given a tad more respect for bowl bids, this game wouldn’t be nearly as much of an issue as it already is. After all, both the Huskies and the Rockets are going to likely win at least seven games this year, and in basically every other conference in America save for this one and the Sun Belt, that’s good enough to go to a bowl game. In this conference though, forget about it. There are three teams, and likely three teams only that are going to end up in a bowl game.
So, that leaves us with quite the quandary for these two teams, both of which we think are amongst the top half of the nation, thus deserving of a bowl bid. The Rockets can pretty much sew up a bowl game with a win, as that would leave it a game up and the tiebreaker most of the top teams in the West. Northern Illinois, which already has a conference loss, can’t afford to lose this one because the best it will do is 8-4 at that point (the same record that kept Temple out of a bowl game last year).
In the end, these two offenses are just phenomenal. There are about a million players that will touch the ball for a Toledo team that virtually always stays fresh for the full game no matter who it is playing, while QB Chandler Harnish is one of the best dual threat quarterbacks in the nation. He is surely going to have 1,000 yards on the ground and 2,000 in the air when this season is said and done, and that might even be an underestimation.
This spread does feel about right though, and we really can’t use anything more than feel for a series which, just in the past four years, has seen both teams score 35+ point victories and has seen a game come right down to the wire. Even the ‘total’ has been hard to pick out, as in the last four seasons, we have seen 95, 39, 45, and 91 points come on the board. Plan on seeing plenty of scoring in this one though as long as Mother Nature cooperates. Check your weather forecast before pulling the trigger in this one.
