Year To Date Record: 47-49 ATS
Upset Record: 10-20 -$170

Week 9 College Football Matchup: Wake Forest Demon Deacons @ North Carolina Tar Heels
Date: Saturday, October 29th, 3:30 ET
Location: Kenan Memorial Stadium, Chapel Hill, NC
College Football Lines: North Carolina -7
Over/Under 52.5
Week 9 College Football TV Schedule: ESPNU

The Tar Heels have had themselves a mighty interesting season. They were blown away by Clemson, lost at home to Miami, and barely escaped against Louisville. Yet all of a sudden, that loss to Georgia Tech doesn’t look so bad, nor do the less than what we figured wins against Rutgers and Virginia. Now, the team is favored by a touchdown over a Wake Forest side that is probably the only one that still has a chance of running down the Tigers atop the Atlantic Division. In the end though, we just don’t trust these Hokies. They only beat Florida State on the grace of a terrible performance by two quarterbacks, they were blown away by Virginia Tech the very next week, and they should have been beaten by Duke. That’s right. Duke. Not in basketball. In football. Sorry, Deacs. Your time in ACC contention is said and done on Saturday.

Week 9 NCAA Football Pick: North Carolina -7

Week 9 College Football Matchup: Purdue Boilermakers @ Michigan Wolverines
Date: Saturday, October 29th, 12:00 ET
Location: Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, MI
College Football Lines: Michigan -14
Over/Under 53
Week 9 College Football TV Schedule: ESPN2

We probably wouldn’t have laid much more than two touchdowns in this one with Big Blue, but we believe that the Boilers are a ruse this year. Purdue has gotten this done with the softest of schedules, beating an Illinois team that has basically given up, Minnesota, Southeast Missouri State, and Middle Tennessee State. Whoopdie doo. Enter Big Blue, which has had two weeks to stew over its loss at Michigan State, and now, it returns home. So far there this year, the Wolverines clocked Western Michigan by 24 in the slop in a rain shortened game, pulled off magic against Notre Dame, and rolled Minnesota, San Diego State, and Eastern Michigan right off of the field. Expect big things out of the Big Blue offense on Saturday, as they derail the Boilermakers.

Week 9 NCAA Football Pick: Michigan -14

Week 9 College Football Matchup: Boston College Eagles @ Maryland Terrapins
Date: Saturday, October 29th, 3:00 ET
Location: Byrd Stadium, College Park, MD
College Football Lines: Maryland -7.5
Over/Under 50.5
Week 9 College Football TV Schedule:

Surely, Maryland is 2-5 and has lost five straight games that it has played against FBS teams. Sure, it was beaten 38-7 on this field by a Temple team that it probably should have destroyed. Sure, the team was embarrassed last week at Doak Campbell Stadium by Florida State. However, this is Boston College coming to town. This is the beginning of a significantly easier stretch of games for Maryland, which still has a reasonable chance at going bowling even though it needs four wins in its final five games to do so. The Eagles haven’t beaten an FBS team this year, and they haven’t even scored more than 19 in a game against an FBS team all season long. By the way, the last time Boston College scored more than 26 against an FBS team was against the Central Michigan Chippewas… one year and 363 days ago.

Week 9 NCAA Football Pick: Maryland -7.5

Week 9 College Football Matchup: Georgia Bulldogs vs. Florida Gators
Date: Saturday, October 29th, 3:30 ET
Location: Ever Bank Field, Jacksonville, FL
College Football Lines: Georgia -3
Over/Under 49
Week 9 College Football TV Schedule: CBS

The possibility is there that the return of QB John Brantley is just what the Gators need to get back on track in the SEC East this year. After all, losing this game would sure end any hope that the team had of winning the conference. However, there is just something about the way that the Bulldogs are playing right now that appeals to us. They’ve won five in a row, and they have a manageable schedule the rest of the way out. Unlike Florida, the Dawgs can lose this one and still make it to the SEC Championship Game, but another loss to the Gators in this series could spell death at the end of the season for Head Coach Mark Richt even if he does win the SEC East. QB Aaron Murray really had a coming of age as a freshman in this game last year, and the Gators were a heck of a lot better team at that point than they are now. Don’t be surprised if a much improved Murray is good enough to keep UGA rolling for a rare win in this series.

Week 9 NCAA Football Pick: Georgia -3

Week 9 College Football Matchup: Washington State Cougars @ Oregon Ducks
Date: Saturday, October 29th, 3:00 ET
Location: Autzen Stadium, Eugene, OR
College Football Lines: Oregon -35
Over/Under 69.5
Week 9 College Football TV Schedule: Local TV

We’re a bit puzzled by this line this week. No one is totally sure what the injury statuses are for QB Darron Thomas and RB LaMichael James, both of which have sat out for the past two games with various injuries. That being said, just because Oregon was able to beat down Colorado with backups by more than five touchdowns doesn’t mean that the same could be said with Washington State. There is a big game ahead next week at Washington, and you can bet that the Ducks are looking forward to that one. This also isn’t the same Wazzu team that we have seen in years past. The Cougs still aren’t very good, but they’re not the worst team in this conference either. Show some pride, Wazzu! Stick inside of five touchdowns.

Week 9 NCAA Football Pick: Washington State +35

Week 9 College Football Matchup: Oklahoma Sooners @ Kansas State Wildcats
Date: Saturday, October 29th, 3:30 ET
Location: Bill Snyder Family Memorial Stadium, Manhattan, KS
College Football Lines: Oklahoma -13
Over/Under 58.5
Week 9 College Football TV Schedule: ESPN

If the Wildcats are for real, they are going to prove us and the rest of the college football world wrong on Saturday. This schedule for K-State has been thin… really, really thin… and we tend to think that it is going to be lucky to be in a halfway decent bowl game when it’s said and done this year. There has been much ado about the fact that KSU is the higher ranked team in the BCS rankings right now and gets to play at home, so there is no reason that the Sooners should be two touchdown favorites. Right? Wrong. QB Landry Jones and this offense will have no problems moving the ball up and down the field on a defense that hasn’t been tested this year, and a one dimensional offense isn’t going to take down this Sooners’ defense. Oklahoma was caught napping last week. It won’t be caught with its guard down for a second straight weekend.

Week 9 NCAA Football Pick: Oklahoma -13

Week 9 College Football Matchup: Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles @ UTEP Miners
Date: Saturday, October 29th, 8:00 ET
Location: Sun Bowl Stadium, El Paso, TX
College Football Lines: Southern Miss -9.5
Over/Under 58
Week 9 College Football TV Schedule: CBS College Sports

Conference USA has a heck of a lot more good teams this year than you would probably think, and a lot of these schools are going to likely be bowl eligible when it is said and done. Southern Miss marks the second team in C-USA to be in the Top 25 this year, but we just aren’t all that sure that it is good enough to go on the road and beat UTEP by double digits more often than not. The Miners haven’t been anything particularly special over the past few years, but they are always competitive, especially here at the Sun Bowl. The Miners pulled the upset the last time these two met in Hattiesburg, and though we don’t think that there is an upset necessarily in the cards, we do think that the UTEP is sticking inside of this number.

Week 9 NCAA Football Pick: UTEP +9.5

Week 9 College Football Matchup: Stanford Cardinal @ USC Trojans
Date: Saturday, October 29th, 8:00 ET
Location: Los Angeles Coliseum, Los Angeles, CA
College Football Lines: Stanford -7.5
Over/Under 59.5
Week 9 College Football TV Schedule: ABC

We know that the Trojans aren’t going anywhere this year in terms of a bowl game. However, forget the BCS National Championship Game; this is the Super Bowl for the Men of Troy. There is a lot of bad blood here between these two teams. Four years ago, the Trojans were nearly six touchdown favorites and were upset by Stanford. Then, in RB Toby Gerhart’s senior year, he just kept running, and running, and running all over the Trojans in yet another upset. Now, the script has more or less been flipped. It is Stanford that is the No. 3 team in the country, and it is USC that has absolutely nothing to lose. The Cardinal probably wouldn’t have landed QB Andrew Luck in recruiting had they not beaten USC in Los Angeles four years ago. The Trojans are being disrespected, as they are ranked just No. 20 in the AP Poll. They’ll flex their muscles and prove that they are every bit as good as every other team in the nation this week at home with an emotionally charged upset.

Week 9 NCAA Football Pick: USC +7.5

Week 9 College Football Matchup: Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns @ Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders
Date: Saturday, October 29th, 7:30 ET
Location: Johnny Floyd Stadium, Murfreesboro, TN
College Football Lines: Middle Tennessee State -3
Over/Under 60.5
Week 9 College Football TV Schedule: Local TV

We’re going to be the first to admit that we don’t know a heck of a lot about Sun Belt football. However, we do know a thing or two about football betting. Normally speaking, when it looks like a fish, and it smells like a fish, it’s probably pretty darn fishy. We’ve seen it a million times before, and now we’re seeing it in the tiny little Sun Belt, a conference where a lot of fishy results seem to happen. ULL is a 6-2 team that is 9-1 ATS in its last 10 road games. It has to think that it is going to be one of the teams from this conference that ends up in a bowl game this year as long as it stays on the boat. Heck, the Cajuns already have a win at Florida International and one at Kent State, both of which came as huge underdogs. Meanwhile, MTSU had to struggle just to get past a Memphis team that is probably one of the worst five teams in the nation, and it was beaten by Western Kentucky as 10 point favorites in overtime three weeks ago. Like we said. It looks fishy. Awfully, awfully fishy. And when it looks like a fish, and it smells like a fish… you know what to do.

Week 9 NCAA Football Pick: Middle Tennessee State -3
