The easy thing to do is to just take the Sooners in the Red River Rivalry, and it would be tough to argue with you if you wanted to do that. Oklahoma has dominated this series, and it has won these last two games by the aggregate score of 118-38 against UT. That being said, we think that this is the time that the Longhorns are going to shine. We know that there isn’t all that much justification for it if you look at the holistic numbers, especially if you know that QB David Ash is out with a concussion and QB Case McCoy is going to be in this game. Case’s brother, QB Colt McCoy was the last man to beat the Sooners in the Red River Shootout, and there is no doubt that pressure is going to be on the younger McCoy to keep this game close.
The trick is going to be maintaining the ground game. There is no doubt that the whole week and a half of preparation for this game has been spent on figuring out how to stop the run. If by chance Texas can at least start to frustrate the Sooners just a bit and get out of some third and short situations on defense for a change, this is a game that can be really, really close. Don’t be all that shocked if the Longhorns find a way to win one for the beleaguered Head Coach Mack Brown, who needs a win in this game in the worst way to get the boosters off of his back for at least another week.
Red River Rivalry Pick: Texas Longhorns +14
Oklahoma vs. Texas Score Prediction: Texas 27 – Oklahoma 24
