Save for the Sun Belt, these two conferences that are pitted against each other in this game are probably the worst in America, and the argument could probably be made that the Sun Belt was a bit stronger this year than both top to bottom. That being said, it is good to see Utah State and Ohio matched up against one another since USU has only won one bowl game in team history, while the Bobcats have never proven to be victorious in a bowl game.

This is also the first time that Utah State has been in a bowl game since 1993, and it has been a long time coming for it. The Aggies somehow nearly won the WAC in spite of the fact that QB Chuckie Keeton hasn’t played since the beginning of November with a back problem. They would have hoped for a slightly later date for a bowl game to certainly get Keeton back to 100%, but the thought is that the freshman will be out there for the Potato Bowl one way or the other. He is one of the keys to a rushing game that averaged 279.8 yards per game on the ground this year, ranking No. 6 in the land. USU is hoping that this isn’t the final game for RB Robert Turbin. Turbin, a junior, is considering the NFL next year, and why not? He rushed for 1,426 yards and 23 scores on the season in an offense that, at times, was completely one-dimensional in spite of the fact that it has some great talent at wide receiver as well.

The Bobcats did a great job this year in the MAC to make it to the league title game, but they also folded when it mattered most in the MAC Championship Game in the fourth quarter, blowing what was once a 20-0 lead in the first half against a rock solid Northern Illinois Huskies team. That being said, QB Tyler Tettleton still has some tremendous talent, and he has a great crop of players around him. RB Donte Harden needs 61 yards to become a 1,000 yard rusher for the year, while WR LaVon Brazill is probably the best deep threat in the game on either side. He had 1,063 yards and a total of 11 TDs this season.

Though both of these defenses had their moments of greatness this year, neither one is truly all that great. The Aggies are going to look complete on offense, and you know that Ohio is going to want to get back on the field and get some points on the board after getting blanked in the final 30 minutes of the MAC Championship Game. These bowl games tend to get past the ‘total’ on a relatively regular basis, especially early in the bowl season, and we don’t think that the Potato Bowl will be any exception.
