We’ve got a good ol’ Lone Star State shootout in this one, and the oddsmakers have the line just totally wrong in this game. You might think that the idea of losing QB Casey Pachall is no big deal considering the fact that the Horned Frogs used QB Trevone Boykin for the mass majority of last season and ended up just fine. The truth of the matter though, is that they didn’t end up just fine. They scored 20 points or fewer in five of their last six games of the season, and that obviously isn’t going to cut it here against the high flying Red Raiders. The TCU defense as well, a unit that was considered to be one of the best in America at the start of the season, hasn’t lived up to its billing, which could cause some problems going forward in this game.
QB Baker Mayfield has had a great start to his season, and the fact of the matter is that he is going to be taking over as the team’s starting quarterback for the rest of the season as long as he continues to play at a relatively high level. Thus far, the Red Raiders have had no problems putting points on the board. We have to remember that Texas Tech too, had some high hopes coming into this season. After crushing both SMU and Stephen F. Austin, we have to think that this is going to be the game where Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury really puts himself on the map. The Red Raiders will win this nationally televised game and set up what could be a very strong year in the Big XII.
