Thursday’s Louisville at Cincinnati NCAA Football Analysis: Louisville and Cincinnati will play for the Keg of Nails for the final time on Thursday night in the matchup of teams with outside shots at BCS bowl games. Each team can earn a share of the American Athletic Conference title with a win and a Central Florida loss Saturday at SMU but only Cincinnati can make a BCS bowl game with a win because Louisville lost to UCF in October. Cincinnati didn’t play Central Florida this season and would need to finish higher than them in the BCS Standings to make a BCS bowl as the AAC representative. Meanwhile, Louisville’s lone loss on the season against UCF will have the Cardinals playing in a lesser bowl game. Louisville ended a four game losing streak in the series with a 34-31 win last year and QB Teddy Bridgewater had one of his best games. He is going to need to play well again after sub par performances in his last four games have taken him out of the Heisman conversation. Louisville’s offense has gone from averaging 500 yards per game to 350 in it’s last three games. Cincinnati, who has won 16 of its last 18 home games by outscoring opponents by an average of 23.4 points per game and is playing its best football of the season heading into this game. Both teams have been playing very well on the defensive side of the ball. Louisville ranks second in FBS in total defense allowing 250 yards per game while Cincinnati ranks eighth allowing 300. This game is one Cincinnati should win at home, they’ve been playing much better in conference and they have more to gain from a victory in this game. Louisville had much higher expectations this season and fell short so they should be heading into this game with much less motivation. They also have a much harder time running the ball with the 89th ranked rushing attack in college football.

What to expect in this week 15 NCAA Football match up: The biggest difference in this game will be motivation and desire to win. Cincinnati will run the ball more effectively and hold Louisville to three and outs early in the game while they get an early lead and never look back. The game won’t be as close as the final score as Louisville’s bend but don’t break defense will keep Cincinnati out of the endzone but their lack of offense will keep them from winning this game on the road. Cincinnati has been an under the radar team all season long and they finally have a chance to prove their worth on national TV this Thursday.
