Thursday NCAA Football Analysis: Coming off a bye week and four consecutive losses, the Texas Tech Red Raiders still have a lot to play for in their season finale, starting with the job of head coach Kliff Kingsbury who would love to stay at his alma mater.  On Thanksgiving the Red Raiders head to Austin, Texas to take on their arch rival Texas Longhorns.  The Texas offense is one of the most balanced in all of college football making them very hard to prepare for defensively.  Texas ranks 47th in passing and 41st in rushing with a balanced and usually effecting pro style offense.  The Longhorns are averaging 440 yards per game with 193 rushing and 250 passing.  Texas Tech hasn’t beaten Texas since 2008 nor have they won in Austin since 1997 despite several down seasons for the Texas football program the last few years.  A big key to this game will be Texas Tech sustaining offense with their mainly pass happy attack.  In their losses this season Texas gives up over 21 first downs per game and with the way Texas Tech throws the ball they have to move the chains and stay on the field.  The Red Raiders have done a very good job of this in the first quarters of their four game losing streak, but in the final three quarters of the game they are averaging just fifteen points.  Part of sustaining long, point producing drives is running the ball effectively.  In four losses, Texas has allowed over 300 rushing yards per game but the problem is Texas Tech only averages 124 rushing yards per game.   The young and inexperienced Texas Tech offensive line will be a big problem for them against the Texas defense that loves exotic blitz packages and moving players around to confuse opposing quarterbacks.  They will have to make holes and protect the quarterback if they’re going to stay in this game.
Texas Tech at Texas Free NCAA Football Picks: Texas -4.5 and under 66
Texas Tech at Texas Game Prediction: 34-24 Texas
What to expect in this week 13 NCAA Football match up: The well rounded Texas offense will be more run heavy in this game against the suspect Texas Tech run defense, this will also help keep the quick strike Texas Tech passing offense off of the field.  Texas will have no problem converting on third downs and keeping the Texas Tech defense on their heels for much of the game.  On the other side of the ball, you can’t hold the Tech passing attack down for four full quarters but recently with no threat of a running game they have been much more containable.
