Sunday NFL Football Analysis: The Detroit Lions are winless in their last nine trips to Heinz Field and Pittsburgh has won their last two at home. However, it’s clear to any avid football fan that this isn’t the Detroit Lions teams of years past (when their fans were more known for paper bag heads on Thanksgiving). This Lion team is playing solid football and taking advantage of an injury plagued NFC North. They are in sole possession of first place in the divison. It’s the first time they have been in first place this late in the season in almost a decade and a half. They also appear to have a fairly easy schedule the rest of the year. The Steelers are the first of Detroit’s opponents with a sub-.500 record. However, the strong defense against the pass may keep them in this game.
Much of the success of the Lions this year goes to QB Matt Stafford and WR Calvin Johnson who are both among the league leaders at their positions; and the Steelers know very well that they’re going to need to shut down his Calvin Johnson iif they want to win this game. Pittsburgh will be without starting rookie safety Shamarko Thomas. Also, LB LaMarr Woodley’s status is uncertain. QB Ben Roethlisburger is having one of his worst statistical seasons behind an offensive line that has been changing every week. He is the league leader in sacks and his average quarterback rating is a mere 87.6. Against the Lions defensive line, one of the best in the league, they are may have real problems getting the time necessary to throw. This also may present problems for their rather pedestrian game and their ability to run between the tackles. Although, Pittsburgh’s running attack has improved as of late, with over 100 yards in three of their last four, they are still one of the worst in the league. This lack of a sound running game may present problems against a Detroit team that is pretty solid up-front. The Lions appear to have more playmakers on offense. While the Lions may not won’t tear it up against a solid Pittsburgh secondary away from the Ford Field dome (& on grass), they’ll probably find enough plays to to get a much-needed road win due to the Pittsburgh offense’s inability to moving the football with any consistancy.

Detroit Lions at Pittsburgh Steelers Game Prediction: Detroit 22 Pittsburgh 16
What to expect in this NFL Football match up: It’s probably going to be another long game for Pittsburgh QB Ben Roethlisburger behind a very patchworked offensive line. They facing one of the leagues best pass-rushing defensive lines. Therefore, “Big Ben” will likely be hurried and sacked often. Unless, RB Le’Veon Bell can find room to run between the tackles, it may end up being another slow day for the Steeler offense. On the flip-side, the secondary of the Steelers will probably be able to contain Lions passing attack within reason, and will look to bottle up Calvin Johnson, and let another player try to beat them. Those guys will likely be running-backs Reggie Bush & Joque Bell. These two guys are playing well and should give the Lions enough plays to move the chains and put a pair of TDs on the board; and 20 points is likely all it will take to beat the stuggling Pittsburgh offense that has a hard time moving the ball. This may not be the most exciting game to watch this week, but there’s a chance to cash in with a small value bet on the Lions.
