NFL Thursday Night Week 12 Preview: Just a year ago the Atlanta Falcons were one of the best teams in the NFC while the New Orleans Saints were having one of the most frustrating seasons in franchise history.  With their roles reversed in 2013, the visiting Saints can sweep the season series by extending the Falcons losing streak to five games on Thursday Night Football.  The return of Sean Payton and the addition of defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has helped the Saints with one of the biggest turnarounds in league history.  The Saints are looking for a third straight win after beating San Francisco 23-20 on Sunday.  Injuries combined with a struggling defense and lack of running game has Atlanta at 2-8 and tied for the worst record in the NFC.  They lost 41-28 to Tampa Bay on Sunday and have dropped four straight for the first time since 2007.  New Orleans rallied from a 10-0 deficit to win 23-17 in their season opener at home against the Falcons.  The Saints second ranked offense averaging 29 points per game behind Drew Brees 68% completion percentage is not a surprise.  Brees has been one of the best quarterbacks in the league the last five years and there’s no sign of him slowing down in Sean Payton’s system.  The big difference for the Saints this year has been the play of their defense.  They’re only allowing 18 points per game and 300 yards with Rob Ryan’s bend but don’t break defensive scheme and their play has the Saints favored to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.  On the other hand, the Falcons defense is allowing 29 points per game, 29th in the league and they’re giving up over 250 yards per game through the air which is never a good thing when Drew Brees is heading to town.  All signs point to a New Orleans blowout in this game, but the Falcons are desperate and if they can’t compete in a rivalry game, at home, on primetime, then there is no hope for Atlanta going forward.  The Saints will be bet heavily in this game, but home dogs in division cover often on Thursday night and Matt Ryan can keep his team within this number.
Saints at Falcons Free NFL Picks: Falcons +7.5 and over 52.5
Saints at Falcons Game Prediction: 31-27 Saints
What to expect in this week 12 NFL match up:
The Falcons will suprise a lot of people by moving the ball effectively against the Saints defense.  The running back combination of Stephen Jackson and Antone Smith will be better than they have been all season in a big primetime home game while Matt Ryan will limit the turnovers and Roddy White getting healthy will allow them to move the ball.  Drew Brees and the Saints offense will do what they usually do, score 30 points with 350 passing yards and 3 touchdowns but the key factor in this game will be the success of the Falcons offense.
