Seattle Seahawks at Washington Redskins Monday Night NFL Football Analysis: Just two years ago the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins entered a playoff matchup with bright futures while being led by promising, up and coming rookie quarterbacks. The fortunes have changed drastically for both franchises since that game.  The Seahawks will return to the nation’s capital Monday night for the first time since that meeting as defending Super Bowl champions, while the last place Redskins were just embarrassed in prime time with a first year coach.  The teams met in the playoffs in 2012 after Robert Griffin III guided Washington to the NFC title and Russell Wilson helped Seattle make a wild card spot.  The Redskins built a 14-0 lead behind two touchdown passes from Griffin before the Seahawks scored the final 24 points to advance. Washington then went 3-13 the next season, resulting in Jay Gruden replacing Mike Shanahan as coach.  Wilson showcased the type of leadership he has been lauded for by rushing for 21 yards and completing four of six passes in overtime on a drive capped by a Marshawn Lynch six yard touchdown in a 26-20 win over Denver two weeks ago.  Seahawks coach Pete Carroll then gave his team a full week off during the bye as they will now play 13 weeks in a row. Seattle has won eight straight on Monday nights. The national spotlight will again be on Washington after its 45-14 home defeat to the Giants last Thursday night. Cousins was picked off a career-high four times in losing his fifth straight start.  The Redskins need to run the ball to be effective, featuring Alfred Morris, fifth in the NFL with 316 yards and they will need him to keep the ball out of Kirk Cousins hands against Seattle’s secondary.  That secondary will get even stronger with the return of Kam Chancellor who had been questionable with ankle injury.  Seattle will also rely on Lynch, who has 234 yards in 2014 and made an impression upon the Redskins in the aforementioned postseason game with 132 yards and one score.  This game sets up very well for the defending Super Bowl champions who enter this game off a bye, and will force turnovers from the Washington offense early and often.

Seattle Seahawks at Washington Redskins Game Prediction: 27-13 Seattle

What to expect in this Week 5 NFL Football match up: Normally we’d advise against picking a touchdown favorite on the road on Monday Night Football, but these two teams are heading in completely different directions and the Seattle defense is a matchup nightmare for the Washington offense.  The Seahawks like to play press coverage, force turnovers, and run the football.  Kirk Cousins throws too many interceptions, the Redskins defense is not good against the run and they’re lacking at receiver.  If Seattle can contain Alfred Morris this is going to be a long game for Jay Gruden’s team.
