New York Jets at Carolina Panthers
Date and Time: Sunday, 12/15/13 at 4:05pm on CBS
Game Line: Carolina Panthers -11 (from JustBet)
Sunday NFL Football Analysis: The Carolina Panthers got a little ahead of themselves last weekend in a blowout loss in New Orleans but they get a great chance to bounce back against the Jets. The Panthers will look to continue their success at home by beating the Jets and essentially ending their playoff hopes. Their eight game winning streak ended to Drew Brees and the Saints offense 31-13 last week putting them a game behind the Saints in the NFC South. Overlooking the Jets would prove even more costly since Carolina hosts the Saints next week before concluding the regular season at last-place Atlanta. New Orleans ends 2013 at home versus Tampa Bay, but visits St. Louis this week. The Jets certainly share that sentiment as they chase Baltimore and try to fend off a host of other teams for the final wild-card spot in the AFC playoff race. They’re one game behind the Ravens, but lost to them in Week 12. A return home, where the Panthers have won five straight, could also benefit Cam Newton, who completed 22 passes for just 160 yards and one touchdown while being sacked five times against the Saints. Newton may be key to keeping that run going since the Jets defense ranks 24th against the pass, surrendering an average of 254.9 yards and may be without corner Antonio Cromartie who is trying to recover from a concussion. The Panthers defense is looking to rebound from one of its worst performances of the season, giving up a season-high 304 passing yards and 373 overall. They also gave up four passing touchdowns to New Orleans after yielding just nine over the first 12 games. Still, Carolina allows a league low 14.5 points per game, and ranks second overall while allowing 296 yards. The Jets, meanwhile, are 31st in the league with just 17 points per game, 13.2 on the road where they’re 1-5. The Carolina Panthers defense will have a field day against the Jets offense and will make it look easy after being embarrassed last weekend.

New York Jets at Carolina Panthers Game Prediction: 31-13 Panthers
What to expect in this NFL Football match up: We don’t usually predict blowouts because this is still the NFL, but this is a very bad spot for the Jets whose sputtering offense has to go on the road against one of the best defenses in the league. And they’re going to be angry after allowing 31 against the Saints on Sunday Night Football last weekend. They will completely shut down the Jets offense while Cam Newton has one of the better passing games of his season against a beat up Jets secondary. This game will be over by halftime and the Panthers will get ready for a big showdown at home against the Saints again next weekend.
