Baltimore Ravens at Miami Dolphins Sunday NFL Football Analysis: The Miami Dolphins take on the Baltimore Ravens and a key AFC match up with major playoff implications.
The Dolphins are coming off a 16–13 victory over the New York Jets on Monday night it was a rather sluggish performance for the Dolphins 13–3 at halftime, yet rallied in the second half and clinch the win with an interception on the Jets final drive. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill completed 25 of 35 pass attempts for 235 yards with one interception. Their offense was rather inept, as they were outgained by a Jets offense that’s one of the worst in the league. Miami’s defense for the most part has been solid for the majority of the season, yet the Jets ran all over them, gaining 277 yards on the ground.
The Baltimore Ravens come in to Sunday’s match up at 7–5. They are coming off a rare home loss to San Diego, losing in the final minutes 34–33. Quarterback Philip Rivers engineered an 80 yard drive in the final two minutes capping it off with a 1 yard touchdown pass to Eddie Royal. Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has had a decent season, completing 63% of his passes for 2989 yards with 20 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. Justin Forsett leads the way out of the backfield, with 1009 yards rushing on the season with seven touchdowns. The addition of wide receiver Steve Smith has created one of the better wide receiving tandems in the league with Torrie Smith. The two wideouts have totaled 1428 yards between them with 13 touchdowns.
I’m laying the points with the Miami Dolphins on Sunday afternoon. Miami sure didn’t put up the most impressive performance against one of the league’s worst teams last Monday night and that might be a little bit of a wakeup call. This Miami team is solid, and Ryan Tannehill has progressed a lot this season. I think they will have some success on offense on Sunday, as Baltimore what’s dealt a big blow this week losing defensive end Haloti Ngata to a four-game suspension due to PED use. Ngata is a huge contributor on the Ravens defensive line, often drawing double teams and probably is their most significant player on defense. I think Tannahill will have success getting the ball down the field against a secondary that’s already banged up and now will struggle to get pressure on the passer. Joe Flacco will have his hands full going up against a Miami defense that has one of the better secondaries in the league yielding just 198 yards per game through the air. Miami has been solid at home lately, and I truly think this team is getting better as the season goes on. Only laying a field goal against a team that’s defense has some holes isn’t much of a tough decision for me. I’ll take the Dolphins to win this one by more than a field goal.
