Dallas Cowboys at Chicago Bears Thursday NFL Football Analysis: The Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears meet up for the week 14 edition of Thursday Night Football from Soldier Field in Chicago.
The Dallas Cowboys are currently 8-4 and 2nd in the NFC East and are coming off of one of their most embarrassing performances of the season losing to Philadelphia 33-10 on Thanksgiving Day. The Philadelphia pass rush frustrated quarterback Tony Romo, sacking him 4 times and intercepted him twice and limited him to just 199 yards passing, his second lowest output this season. Running back Demarco Murray, who leads the league in rushing, was limited to just 73 yards on 20 carries. While the defensive effort was stellar for the Eagles, it left Dallas fans scratching their head as their offensive line put forth a rather disappointing effort. The Dallas defense was just as bad, allowing 464 yards of total offense, 256 of which came on the ground, as the Cowboys struggled against the run.
The 5-7 Chicago Bears are also coming off a loss on Thanksgiving Day. The Bears held a 14-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, but were outscored 31-3 for the rest of the game as they lost 34-17 to the Detroit Lions. The Bears have been mediocre at best this season, and Jay Cutler’s leadership has definitely come into question. It’s been a somewhat subpar season for Cutler, who has passed for 3105 yards this season with 24 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Matt Forte has had a respectable effort the season with 828 yards rushing and 650 yards receiving. The Bears have one of the more talented wide receiver tandems in the league, with Alshon Jeffrey and Brandon Marshall. It’s almost baffling with all the talent they have on offense, that they just can’t put it together on a consistent basis. Their defense has been a disaster the season allowing 376 yards per game, and is giving up 28 points a game, second worst in the league. Surprisingly, they are respectable against the run, allowing just 105 yards per game.
I don’t know where Dallas is mentally, especially after being embarrassed on national TV in front of their home crowd. I’m sure they remember being beaten at home last season on Monday night football by this same Bears team. I’m sure they’d like to get a little revenge, however after the game on Thursday night, they have to turn around and head to Philadelphia in what will be a huge divisional game. I don’t know what it is, but this Dallas team looks to be wearing down somewhat, and the way their offensive line was beaten last Thursday, I just don’t know if I can back this team laying points on the road and what is quite a sandwich spot. The Cowboys are 5–0 on the road this season, and I would like to think they can pull out a win on Thursday night. I just can’t lay more than a field goal with a defense that looks to be in regression. I think the Bears can keep this one close, and I expect a lot of points to be put up on the scoreboard. I think that Dallas pulls this one out, but I don’t think the Bears make it easy whatsoever.
