Sunday NFL Football Analysis: The Denver Broncos take on the San Diego Chargers in an AFC West tilt from Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California.
The Broncos come in to Sunday’s matchup at 10-3 and are tied with New England for the best record in the AFC. The Patriots do own the tiebreak however with a win over the Broncos back in week 8. Denver has won 4 out of their last 5 and 3 games in a row. They are coming off a 24-17 victory over Buffalo, a victory that saw running back C.J. Anderson rush for 3 touchdowns on only 58 yards. Quarterback Peyton Manning was wildly ineffective throwing for only 173 yards and 2 interceptions, his second straight game with less that 2oo yards passing. The Denver defense definitely stepped up their efforts, allowing just 74 rushing yards, sacking Buffalo quarterback Kyle Orton 4 times and forcing 2 interceptions. They did allow 355 yards passing, partly due to Buffalo being down by such a significant margin throughout.
The San Diego Chargers come in to Sunday’s game with an 8-5 record, and have 3 out of their last 5. They are coming off a disappointing 23-14 loss last Sunday night to New England. The Chargers held a 14-13 lead at half time, yet could not break into the scoring column in the second half often struggling in pass protection as quarterback Philip Rivers was sacked 4 times.
I’m recommending a play on the home dog San Diego Chargers on Sunday. The Chargers are very capable of beating the Broncos, as they did so in Denver last season. I think they’ll have their offensive line woes figured out, as those mistakes are correctable. San Diego can ill-afford to lose another game, and to be perfectly honest, Peyton Manning hasn’t looked all too impressive as of late. Should the Broncos win on Sunday, the Broncos would clinch the AFC West division; I don’t think the Chargers will want that happening on their home turf. I’m getting points with a quarterback in Philip Rivers who has been historically good in December. I think San Diego puts a hold on the Broncos divisional championship celebration on Sunday.
