Sunday NFL Football Analysis: The New Orleans Saints take on the Atlanta Falcons in a key NFC South division game with the division title still up for grabs.
The Saints are coming off a big Monday win on the road at Chicago. Drew Brees was stellar completing 29 of 36 pass attempts for 375 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Saints defense really stepped up to the plate, sacking Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler 7 times and allowing just 278 yards of total offense. It was without a doubt a complete team effort, as the Saints put on a great display of complimentary football. New Orleans has actually been pretty successful on the road as of late, with three straight road wins. At home? Well, that’s a different story, as they’ve lost 4 straight in the dome. A complete change from how they’ve been at home in years past.
The Falcons are coming off a 27-20 loss at Pittsburgh, and have lost 3 out of their last 4 games. Quarterback Matt Ryan has had a pretty decent year, completing 65.8% of his passes for 4112 yards with 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. They have a very good wide receiving tandem in Julio Jones and Roddy White, who have combined for over 2100 yards and 13 touchdowns. Running back Steven Jackson might be getting up there in age, but he’s still somewhat effective with 698 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns. The Atlanta defense has been abysmal, ranking dead last in total defense allowing 409 yards per game.
I am recommending a play on the over in the Falcons/Saints contest. I don’t think we’ll get the same intensity from the Saints defense as we saw on Monday night. The week prior, the Saints defense got 41 points put on them at home by Carolina, so you had to think the next week they would really try to step it up. The Atlanta offense is just awful as it is, and I don’t think they’ve had a good performance this year. Both offenses can put up points, and I think we’ll see plenty of offense in this one. As far as a side is concerned, I’d lean the Falcons, it’s a big divisional game with a lot on the line. I think the best bet however, is indeed the total.
