Thursday Night NFL Football Analysis: The 2-11 Jacksonville Jaguars take on the 2-11 Tennessee Titans in a matchup of bottom feeders in the AFC North on Thursday night football on NFL Network.
It’s been an abysmal year for head coach Ken Wisenhunt in his first year in Tennessee. After an impressive week 1 win over Kansas City, it’s been pretty much downhill from there. The Titans have only one more win against Thursday night’s opponent to account for their only other win on the season. One of the main reasons why they’ve had problems this season is instability at the quarterback position. Jake Locker and rookie Zach Mettenburger are out for the year, and that would leave longtime backup Charlie Whitehurst to be under center for the Titans. Whitehurst has completed 56.6% of his passes this season with 5 touchdowns and 2 interceptions this season. The Titans are coming off a 16-11 home loss to the New York Jets.
Jacksonville may not have shown much improvement this season, but the Jaguars are a team in transition with a bright future in they draft well. Rookie quarterback Blake Bortles has the tools to become and effective quarterback in the league, Jacksonville is coming off of a 20-12 loss at Baltimore, giving the Ravens all they wanted. Some teams that have come into Jacksonville this season expecting an easy win have often gotten a feisty team that gives a max effort. Jacksonville may not impress you statistically, but they do have a pretty good pass rush that has registered 38 sacks on the season.
This is a rather east decision for me. I’m recommending a play on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night. Back in week 13, the Jaguars came back from a 21 point deficit to defeat the New York Giants 25-24. That victory, and last weeks performance showed me one thing, they aren’t giving up by any means. Gus Bradley really has his guys giving a max effort every time they play, and I would expect them really to show up in their only primetime game this season. This will give the Jaguars a chance to not only avoid the cellar in the AFC North, but show the entire nation that they will be a team to be reckoned with in the future. The Titans have no consistency on offense, and when you’re losing at home to the Jets, it shows that players might be just going through the motions. Expect the Jags to show up in a big way on Thursday night.
