Are the Giants ever really going to stop turning the ball over? There’s a real question right now as to whether a team that has coughed it up four times per game this season is going to ultimately figure out how to hold onto it against a defense that is averaging forcing almost three turnovers per game. It is clear that going on the road against one of the best defenses in the league isn’t going to be fun, and it is going to be made even less fun for QB Eli Manning if he is continuing to toss over two picks per game. The ground game might not be suiting a single back this week that was on the roster in Week 1, and only RB Brandon Jacobs really might be there to tote the rock with regularity, and the defense is going to have to really pick up the Giants if they are going to have a shot at getting their first victory.
Here’s your warning, though. This is still QB Jay Cutler. And it’s still Jay Cutler against what at least should be a respectable team in primetime. The stats don’t lie. Cutler is averaging being sacked almost three times per game in primetime in his career, and he has more picks than games played in these standalone game situations. The great equalizer for turnovers is more turnovers on the other side of the ball. The Giants have only forced seven turnovers all year, but if they can force two in this one, it’s going to be really hard for Chicago to not only win this game, but to win it by more than a touchdown. We’re not sure that this is the day that Head Coach Tom Coughlin gets his first ‘W’ of the season, but we do like the points in this one.
