Raiders Notes: The Raiders have to be embarrassed that after running off nine straight wins in division, they have lost back to back games at home against the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos. Now, they are going into battle in this one, figured to lose a third straight as a big underdog at San Diego, and it will have to do this without RB Darren McFadden, one of the team’s top leading rushers. The good news is that RB Michael Bush could be a starter on a lot of teams, and he had a solid game last week before basically being taken out of the game plan after the team fell behind in the second half. It was good to see QB Carson Palmer play well in his first start since his days with the Bengals, but there are still some real causes for concern that he doesn’t quite have command of the whole offense yet. Remember that this team has played well on the road this year, winning at the Broncos and the Houston Texans, and coughing away a huge lead against the Buffalo Bills at the death.
Chargers Notes: The Bolts have dropped three in a row, and they are definitely in some panic mode. Many are going to look at the loss to the Green Bay Packers last week and suggest, “Wow, look at how those guys fought back against the best team in the league!” However, they would have been saying, “Wow, those guys lost by three touchdowns at home!” had they not scored those two TDs against a de facto prevent defense. The defense has been pitiful for the Chargers, and we expect nothing less in this one. Allowing 23+ points in four straight games is bad, especially when you consider that the 16 and the 17 before it against the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs were numbers that were considered terrible at the time.
The Final Word: Neither one of these teams are our favorite right now, but we really hate the Chargers and will continue to fade them for as long as they are overrated. Oakland is good enough to win this game outright, and that’s exactly what we think is going to happen. Don’t be surprised if after this one, Head Coach Norv Turner is finally looking for another job.
