Last season, the Minnesota Vikings were able to take down the Chicago Bears in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs. Now, they return to the Georgia Dome, the scene of the crime, in a huge regular season game in Week 6 on Sunday Night Football.

Vikings Notes: The Vikes are off the can, as they were able to take down the Arizona Cardinals last week in convincing fashion. QB Christian Ponder still hasn’t taken a snap this year, but that could be changing soon if QB Donovan McNabb continues to struggle. Of course, if RB Adrian Peterson can have another three touchdown quarter like he did last week against Arizona, there isn’t much that McNabb needs to do to be able to win this game. Last year, this defense really struggled against the Bears, allowing 67 points against just 27 scored. If this doesn’t change, it is going to be a long night for the cellar dwellers of the NFC North, and if that’s the case, this season is likely over for the men in purple and gold.
Bears Notes: QB Jay Cutler had another iffy primetime game last week against the Detroit Lions, coughing up a 13-10 halftime lead and going 28-of-38 for 249 yards. He didn’t throw a pick, but only one touchdown pass really wasn’t worthwhile against the Detroit offense either. RB Matt Forte has really run the ball well these past couple weeks, accounting for a total of 321 rushing yards after having just 119 in the first three games. The commitment to the ground game is odd for Offensive Coordinator Mike Martz, but it is definitely a great addition to help out the passing game. The problem with that passing game, though? There just isn’t all that much talent floating around on the outside unless the ball ends up in the hands of WR Devin Hester.
The Final Word: In the end, the Bears are clearly the better team in spite of the fact that these two squads are only separated by a game. We can’t ignore just how bad these two games were last year. We aren’t so sure that Chicago is going to be beating down the Vikes this badly in Week 6, but we do think that the game is going to be a relatively comfortable result for the hosts.
