The biggest question that we have for the Packers coming into this season is whether they have really improved their defense or not. The truth of the matter is that we don’t think so, and we think that they are going to get steamrolled in this game right from the get go, just as they did last season twice by this San Fran team. If you’re looking for proof, the Niners rumbled for nearly 500 yards on the ground in two games against the Packers. What’s worse is the fact that we have no idea whether the Packers are going to struggle with stopping a mobile quarterback. They only have the sample set of QB Colin Kaepernick from last year to really lean on, and in that game, the former Nevada Wolf Pack stud accounted for over 450 yards and four TDs between his arm and his legs. (Not to mention 45 points.)
The other issue for the Packers? They still aren’t going to be able to run the football against San Francisco. The 49ers still have one of the best front sevens in the league, and it wasn’t a mistake that last season, they allowed the third fewest yards on the ground and the fourth fewest yards per carry in the league. They’ll only get better this year, and though RB Eddie Lacy has got to be better than any of the garbage that Green Bay was trotting out there last season at the tailback spot, the offensive line is still in shambles, especially without OT Bryan Bulaga. Go with the Niners and lay the points in Week 1.
