Ravens @ Broncos On TV: NBC
It’s not all that often that there is a ton of action on an underdog in an NFL game, but here, we have over two thirds of the betting action coming in on Baltimore, and yet the line isn’t moving. The Ravens were the trendy team of last season, and they have had all sorts of luck playing against Denver over the course of their history, going 8-2 ATS in the last 10 games that these two have played. That being said, we aren’t all that sure that history is going to repeat itself in this one. Remember that the Broncos, though not the dominating team by any stretch of the imagination, was probably appropriately favored by 9.5 points in the Divisional Round of the playoffs against the Ravens last year. It was a game that, if not for a Hail Mary, would have ended with Denver winning by seven, not with Baltimore winning in a second overtime period.
On top of that, we believe that the Ravens have done little to help themselves. They are going to have to rebuild their entire defense this year now that both LB Ray Lewis and S Ed Reed (amongst others) are gone. WR Anquan Boldin is gone, TE Dennis Pitta is out for the season, and TE Ed Dickson is hurt. Yes, LB Von Miller isn’t going to be playing for Denver, but this is a game in which the Broncos are almost certainly going to put at least 27 points on the board. If that’s the case, can Baltimore really get to 20? We aren’t all that sure that’s the case. There are only so many big time plays that a team can hit, and there is going to have to be some sort of intermediate passing game to win this game. We just don’t see there being intermediate receivers on this club. RB Ray Rice is going to have to go nuts, and we don’t see it happening.
Ravens @ Broncos Pick: Denver Broncos -9
Ravens @ Broncos Score Prediction: Denver 27 – Baltimore 17
