NFL Betting Odds: Houston -2.5 (43.5)
Saints vs. Texans On TV: FOX
Both the Texans and the Saints have played tremendous ball over the course of the last two weeks, and it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see either team end up scoring 30+ points in this game. That being said, we only think that one team has the ability to keep the other one in the teens, and that’s Houston. A lot of the success that the Texans have had in the preseason has stemmed from their defense. Save for one bad drive against the passing attack of the Miami Dolphins in Week 2, this defense has been relatively solid. The team is only conceding 252.0 yards and 15.0 points per game, and though this is going to be a relatively tough task going against the Saints, we do think that the home field advantage is going to help out the defense in this one. This is a much bigger game for the Texans, who are still trying to establish that they are Super Bowl contenders this season, than it is for New Orleans, and we think that the backup quarterbacks for the Texans who will be playing in the second half have a heck of a lot more to play for. Either QB TJ Yates or QB Case Keenum could end up losing their job in spite of the fact that both have played quite well here in the preseason, as Head Coach Gary Kubiak generally only keeps two quarterbacks on his roster at any given time.
