The assumption is there that the Lions are going to win this game and win it going away, and we have to believe that to be the case in this one as well. We just don’t believe that the Vikings are anywhere near as good as they were last season. Their defense overachieved, and their offense only went as far as RB Adrian Peterson took them. The secondary is going to be suspect at best, and that’s problematic when you’ve got QB Matthew Stafford and WR Calvin Johnson running up and down the field. We have high hopes for RB Reggie Bush and RB Joique Bell at this point as well, as we think that Head Coach Jim Schwartz has a ton of weapons as his disposal that he can get the ball to. This could be a big time game for a Detroit offense that underachieved last season.
Once Minnesota falls behind in this game, it could be all over. QB Christian Ponder is clearly one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the league, and he isn’t going to be able to keep up with Stafford and the offense if that’s the case. The trick is going to be keeping the middle of the line of scrimmage firm for Detroit. With the Lions having all offseason to prepare for this one, we think that they are going to figure out how to at least slow down All Day, keep him to around 100 yards, and win this game by at least a touchdown.
Vikings @ Lions Pick: Detroit Lions -4.5
