Cappers Info is back with another set of Arena Football picks for Week 9 of the AFL betting season, and the game that we are going to focus in on this week is the Friday night tussle between the Arizona Rattlers and the Utah Blaze.

Arizona Rattlers @ Utah Blaze (+8.5)
Friday, May 28th
9:05 ET, E Center, Salt Lake City, UT

Arizona Notes: The Rattlers snapped a brief two-game losing skid last week by taking out the Iowa Barnstormers on the road 52-48. Even though they are 3-3, the Rats have played all but one of their games to a deficit of a touchdown or less. Only a two TD defeat at home to the Chicago Rush stands out. QB Nick Davila has completed at least 23 passes in every game this year, and he has thrown 18 touchdowns against just one pick in the L/4 weeks. For the season, the Cincinnati product has completed 64.9 percent of his passes with 38 TDs. WR Rod Windsor is on a clip to shatter all sorts of Arena Football records. He has 70 catches in six games this year and will most likely top the 1,000 yard receiving barrier on the season this week. Arizona has only forced ten turnovers in six games on the season, but the defense has a tendency of finding ways to keep the team in games.

Utah Notes: After a couple weeks where the Blaze really appeared to be getting better, they fell apart at the seams in Week 8 against the Spokane Shock. A 77-28 loss can't make anyone feel good about this team, but it's fairly clear that this is a different squad at home than it is on the road. Utah's one victory came at the E Center, a 65-46 win over the Bossier City Battle Wings. They also stuck around with the Alabama Vipers in Week 2. We'll throw out that first loss of the year to Spokane because of the fact that QB Michael Affleck was under center to start the year. Since that point, QB Brett Elliott has looked competent. He has completed 58.7 percent of his passes for 1,254 yards with 28 TDs against four picks in five starts. WR Aaron Boone has 19 touchdown grabs on the year. KR/DB Brandon Hampton leads the AFL with three kick returns for touchdowns, and he is widely accepted as one of the best return men in the game.

The Final Word: We're going to give the Blaze the benefit of the doubt that last week's defeat was a product of four lost balls off of the net and not that the team is just that bad. In addition to this, Arizona has this tendency of playing relatively close games. Utah, back in front of its home crowd for the first time since that win against the Battle Wings on April 30th, will want to put forth a great effort. The Blaze probably aren't good enough to get their second win of the year, but staying within 8.5 points probably isn't too much to ask.

Friday night's AFL betting action that we're keeping our eyes on comes from the desert, where the Arizona Rattlers will play host to the Chicago Rush.

Chicago Rush @ Arizona Rattlers (+3.5)

Chicago Notes: Chicago was good enough to score a 59-56 win over the Gladiators to move to 2-0 last week, but it wasn't enough to make the Rush 2-0 ATS as well, as they closed as 4.5 point underdogs after opening up as 11 point choices. QB Russ Michna went 22/27 for 315 yards with eight touchdowns and no interceptions. With numbers like that, forcing three QB John Dutton interceptions should've been more than enough for the Rush to win and win comfortably. Still, turning the ball over once on downs and once via a fumble just isn't good enough on a regular basis for this team, and HC Mike Hohensee knows that improvement is something that must take place for Chicago to win the ArenaBowl.

Arizona Notes: The Rattlers were off last week, so we only have one game worth of data on them to dissect. QB Nick Davila had his moments against Cleveland in Week 1, as he threw for 273 yards and four touchdowns. However, without two kick returns for touchdowns and four interceptions by the defense, Arizona would be entering this game at 0-1, not 1-0. Arizona has put together an interesting marketing strategy for this game on Friday night, as every single ticket to the game will be given out for free to everyone in attendance. A packed house in the Snake Pit is expected for the home opener in what will be the first professional football game in this country ever free to the public.

The Final Word: History tells us that the Rush are in bad shape going into Arizona. Chicago has won once there in franchise history, capturing a 53-47 win in May 2007. However, that was the first in five tries at the Pit for the Rush, even though they historically play decent football outside of the Windy City. The Rattlers are 5-1-1 ATS all-time in this series. Even though the two teams look very little like they did back in '08 the last time that they met, the historical results will hold true in this one. There's just too much going against Chicago in its first road game of the year to overcome, especially considering that this should be a raucous crowd in Phoenix to watch.

Prediction: Arizona 54 – Chicago 50

The Arena Football League is back after a year long hiatus, and after a great first night of action, the league returns with a four-pack of games on Saturday night to dig into.

Arizona Rattlers (+3) vs. Cleveland Gladiators

Arizona Notes: On one glance, losing out on QB Joe Germaine in the offseason was bad news for the Rattlers. However, grabbing Nick Davila, who went 38-3 in the af2 over the L/3 seasons as a starting quarterback in the af2, isn't stepping back too much even though the name isn't as recognizable to AFL fans. Even though neither WRs JJ McKelvey nor Cleannord Santil are going to suit it up, there is still plenty of Arena League quality talent coming back to the desert. The offensive line should be amongst the best in the league with Troy Reddick and Kyle Young, and the defensive front is going to be solid with DLs Ron Jones and Darrell Shropshire as well.  Look for WRs Tod Devoe and Trandon Harvey to have big games against an inexperienced Cleveland secondary.

Cleveland Notes: QB John Dutton takes over the reins in Cleveland off of a season in which he threw 17 picks, his fourth straight season in which he chucked at least 14 duds to the other team. In a league where taking care of the football is paramount, that's a terrible statistic. The combination of Ben Nelson, Brent Holmes, and Chris Johnson makes up for a veteran set of wide receivers, but neither of the lines really have any substantial arena league experience to fall back on. The defensive backs also haven't seen a lot of time on the turf at this level either.

The Final Word: Arizona is simply the better team in this game. Both head coaches, Kevin Guy (AZ) and Steve Thonn (CLE) know what they're doing in this league, but Guy has assembled the better set of assistant coaches, including Arena Football Hall of Famer Danny White, who led this Arizona squad to two Arena Bowl titles in his tenure. But as long as Davila doesn't catch a case of the AFL fever, he should be good enough to lead his Rattlers to a road upset in a game which could feature a ton of scoring.

Prediction: Arizona 79 – Cleveland 68
